Electronic Drum Clips

Richard started playing drums at age 11.   His parents thought it would be a passing fad, so only got him drumsticks and lessons and he had to practice on books and pillows. His first teacher was Del Wagner in Winnipeg, who drummed in the Al Sprintz Band at the old Club Morocco.   Two years later he was still practicing his rudiments on books and pillows, when he got his first set of drums.

Following school he played in various nightclub bands, and travelled across western Canada, working in clubs and bars. During those years he played all kinds of music, and did some drum teaching.

In 1977, he lead the house band at the former Town & Country Cabaret, where he has backed up notables - Brook Benton - Rainy Night In Georgia, and Leslie Gore - It's My Party.  A few years later drumming with Bounty, he found himself the opening act for Arrowsmith.

He specializes in complex rhythms which lead him to develop more in the jazz and latin arena. Much of his playing will incorparate traces of these rhythm styles.

He packed up drumming for a living in 1977, and entered the Insurance and Investment Business.

After being away from the drums for some 25 years, he picked up the drumsticks again, and has played with local Victoria bands - Nova and  Lightening Express, over the last few years, and now with the band Network.  www.networktheband.com

Richard has been interested in electronic drums for some time, and  decided to experiment with an electronic drum kit, to see what sound possibilities may be obtained.

The following audio drum clips were improvised within minutes and recorded in one evening, using a Roland V Drum kit.

The purpose was to find unusual sounds on the V drum kit.  The audio clips you hear, were recorded on the  V-drums, with 1 drummer, on 1 recording take.
